PKR Nurul Izzah Anwar wins Leboh Pantai Seat

Latest news for Bangsar residents is that Deputy Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil was beaten by PKR fledging Nurul Izzah Anwar in this year's 12 General Election for a seat in Leboh Pantai.

What do we know about Nurul Izzah Anwar apart from the fact that she is the daughter of Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim's (former Deputy Prime Minister) ? Here is some information about her as reported on  http://nurulizzah.com

Nurul Izzah Anwar currently works as the Political Coordinator for the Office of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as well as actively supporting the activities of Parti KeADILan Rakyat (People’s Justice Party) and volunteering for the Global Health Watch report.  Since June of this year, she is also one of the steering committee members of the 2006 Women Leaders Intercultural Forum in New York.

When her father, Datuk Seri Anwar was sacked as Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister in 1998, Izzah became actively involved in the Reformasi movement of the same year. She campaigned for the cause locally and internationally, speaking in London, Tokyo, Dublin, Bangkok and Bonn.

In 2001, Izzah made an intervention on behalf of Malaysian political detainees at the UN Commission on Human Rights in Geneva. Along with SUARAM, she also briefed the conference on the state of Malaysian politics and human rights.

She also contributed to the Imagining Ourselves project by the International Movement of Women based in San Francisco from 2004 - 2006.

Izzah received her MA in International Relations from SAIS, John Hopkins University, Washington DC in May 2007. She graduated with a Bachelor in Electrial and Electronics Engineering from Universiti Tenaga Nasional in September 2004.

She was previously educated at Assunta Secondary School, PJ; SM Sri Hartamas, KL; and SK Bukit Damansara, KL.

Izzah is married to Raja Ahmad Shahrir, who works in corporate finance and they live in KL.
