BUDI95 Fuel Subsidy: What Bangsar Residents Need to Know

The Malaysian government has officially launched BUDI95, a targeted fuel subsidy scheme for RON95 petrol. The scheme aims to ensure subsidies go directly to Malaysian citizens and to reduce misuse. For Bangsar residents who drive regularly, this could mean noticeable savings at the pump.

What is BUDI95?

BUDI95 (Budi Madani RON95) replaces the previous blanket subsidy system. Eligible Malaysians can buy RON95 at a subsidised price of RM 1.99 per litre, up to 300 litres per month.

  • Reduce misuse by non-citizens or commercial entities
  • Redirect budget savings to other welfare and development programmes
  • Provide a more transparent and targeted subsidy

Who is Eligible?

  • Malaysian citizen with a valid MyKad
  • Hold a valid driving licence (CDL, PDL, or LDL)
  • Licence should not be expired for more than 3 years

Non-citizens and foreign-registered vehicles are not eligible for the subsidy.

How to Check Your Entitlement

From 25 September 2025, you can check eligibility using:

  1. Official portal: Visit www.budimadani.gov.my (or budi95 portal) and enter your MyKad number.
  2. Petrol station apps: Apps like Setel may have a “BUDI95” tile to verify eligibility after e-KYC.
  3. At the station: Insert your MyKad into the pump terminal or counter reader when fueling.

Your remaining monthly quota is tracked automatically and viewable via the portal or supported apps.

When Does It Start?

  • 27 Sept 2025 – Police & military personnel (initial groups)
  • 28 Sept 2025 – Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) recipients
  • 30 Sept 2025 – All eligible Malaysians nationwide

Monthly quotas reset on the 1st of every month.

How It Works at the Pump

  • Insert or scan your MyKad at the pump or counter.
  • Pay with cash, card, or compatible e-wallets (Setel, station apps, etc.).
  • You can fuel any vehicle as long as you are present and eligible.
  • After consuming the 300 L monthly quota, additional RON95 is charged at market (unsubsidised) price.

Pros & Cons

Benefits

  • Save money — RM 1.99/L for eligible RON95 purchases.
  • More transparent and trackable usage via apps/portal.
  • Better-targeted subsidy that aims to reduce abuse.
  • No separate registration required — eligibility is automatic via MyKad records.

Challenges & Risks

  • 300 L/month may be insufficient for heavy users or some small businesses.
  • Possible technical hiccups during early rollout (verification delays, pump hardware issues).
  • Some users may be incorrectly flagged as ineligible due to outdated records — may need to update JPJ/JPN data.
  • Exhausted quota means paying the (potentially volatile) market price for extra litres.

What This Means for Bangsar Residents

Bangsar residents who commute across Kuala Lumpur and PJ can benefit from reduced petrol costs under BUDI95. With many participating petrol stations in and around Bangsar, locals should be able to use the subsidy easily — provided they confirm eligibility beforehand.

Practical tips for Bangsar motorists

  • Check your eligibility early via the official portal or apps.
  • Renew any expired driving licence (especially if lapsed more than 3 years).
  • Track monthly quota to avoid being caught by surprise.
  • Complete e-KYC on petrol apps (Setel or others) for a smoother process.
  • Share info with neighbours via community groups if anyone needs help checking status.

Final Thoughts

BUDI95 is a major update to Malaysia’s fuel subsidy approach. While some adjustments can be expected during rollout, Bangsar residents should prepare early (check eligibility, renew licences if needed) to take advantage of the subsidy and reduce monthly transport costs.
