KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the Cabinet has approved the creation of a Communications Command Centre under the National Economic Action Council to coordinate government messaging on the global energy crisis and the conflict in West Asia.

He explained that daily briefings or press conferences will be held around 4pm, and the committee will initially meet every day to ensure government communications are fully coordinated.

“The committee will be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister II Datuk Seri Ahmad Fadhilah Yusuf, and will meet regularly to coordinate government communications, particularly regarding responses and measures taken by the government and relevant agencies on the global energy crisis and the conflict in West Asia,” he said at the ministry’s weekly press conference today.

Fahmi added that the Cabinet also decided that Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan and Minister of Economy Akmal Nasir will meet with the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Finance and Economy.

He explained that they will present the government’s current plans and measures concerning economic and financial issues arising from the situation in West Asia and its impact on the domestic economy amid the global energy crisis.

He then said the Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan informed the Cabinet that all Asean meetings this year will be held online.

“There will be no in-person meetings in Manila or elsewhere, except for heads of government. Among the earliest meetings will be those of health ministers, which will also take place virtually,” he added.
