KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 — Tan Sri Mohd Hassan Marican has been appointed as the chairman of the Crisis Management Task Force (PPPK) under the National Economic Action Council (MTEN) to coordinate the government’s efforts to address the global energy crisis following the conflict in West Asia.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said Hassan, who is also the head of the Special Advisory Body to the Minister of Finance, will be responsible for reviewing on a daily basis the actions that need to be taken, in addition to gathering feedback on West Asian issues.

“The PPPK has a secretariat chaired by the senior advisor for the Economy in the Prime Minister’s Office Nurhisham Hussein.

“These two structures will assist MTEN, which currently meets every week, to coordinate information on a daily basis,” he said.

Fahmi was speaking at a press conference after attending the Exchange of Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in curbing scam activities, between the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Malaysian Securities Commission (SC) here today.

Fahmi also explained that the tasks of the team led by Hassan do not overlap with the special committee chaired by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, which is responsible for examining current economic developments following the conflict.

“What is important is that our efforts are first and foremost regarding the supply, not only of fuel, fuel, energy for our country to remain secure for the coming months, but also the food supply.

“At the same time, to ensure that prices of goods are controlled and activities of smuggling or diverting fuel, food, can be curbed,” he said.

Since Feb 28, Israel and the United States (US) have carried out military operations against Iran, resulting in thousands of casualties, according to Iranian authorities.
