JOHOR BAHRU, April 2 — The Johor Immigration Department detained four Chinese nationals for using fake passports and overstaying in the country.
Its director, Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus, said the suspects, aged 43 to 57, were detained at a luxury apartment in Bayu Puteri Tuesday.
“One of them used a Mexican international passport to enter and stay in the country, while the others used passports from their country of origin,” he said in a statement.
He added that a check of their shared residence also led to the discovery of 13 international passports from several countries, including Vietnam and Hong Kong.
“Those detained are suspected of working at a recreation centre currently under construction within a golf club area in Johor Bahru,” he said.
He said they have been remanded for 14 days starting yesterday to assist in investigations under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering the country without a valid pass and Section 56(1)(l) of the same Act for possessing forged travel documents. Investigations are also being conducted under the Passports Act 1966.
Mohd Rusdi said the department will continue operations to combat illegal immigrants and document forgery syndicates. — Bernama
