KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 — Malaysia Airlines is expanding its East Asia footprint with the return of direct flights to Fukuoka, Japan, and the introduction of two new services to Shenzhen and Changsha in China.

The new flights will commence on July 1 to Shenzhen, July 8 to Changsha, and September 2 to Fukuoka. These additions bring the airline’s China network to nine key gateways and reinforce its commitment to providing greater travel flexibility across the region.

Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, president and group chief executive officer of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), said the expansion reflects the group’s strategic focus on scaling its presence in key growth markets across East Asia while cementing Kuala Lumpur’s position as a strategic gateway.

“Both Shenzhen and Changsha align perfectly with our network strategy, driven by robust demand across both business and leisure segments. The return to Fukuoka further enhances our network depth.

“As the only carrier operating direct flights on this route, we are proud to offer passengers a seamless non-stop experience that eliminates the need for transit.

“These developments demonstrate our ongoing commitment to optimising our network and delivering a more integrated travel experience for our customers,” he said.

The expansion sees the airline introduce new services between Kuala Lumpur and Shenzhen (SZX) and Changsha (CSX), alongside the resumption of flights to Fukuoka (FUK), which Malaysia Airlines last operated in September 2006.

With these launches, the airline now serves nine strategic destinations in China, including Beijing (PKX), Shanghai (PVG), Guangzhou (CAN), Xiamen (XMN), Hong Kong (HKG), Taipei (TPE), and Chengdu Tianfu (TFU). Ticket sales for the new services begin today, supporting growing travel demand and strengthening connectivity between Malaysia and these high-growth regional hubs.

Beyond East Asia, Malaysia Airlines is increasing flight frequencies on key routes to Brisbane, Australia; Manila, Philippines; and Colombo, Nepal to meet rising demand and support tourism and trade links.

The additional frequencies will roll out in April for Europe and South Asia, July for ASEAN, and between August and October for Australia and New Zealand.

Captain Nasaruddin also said the airline will operate ad-hoc Kuala Lumpur–London flights on April 18 and 22, 2026, to accommodate passengers affected by recent Middle Eastern carrier disruptions.

Meanwhile, MAG unveiled the MAG Arena, recognised by Asia Records and ASEAN Records as Asia’s largest airline trade pavilion at a consumer travel fair.

The pavilion, in line with Malaysia Airlines’ role as official airline partner and premier sponsor of MATTA Fair 2026, spans approximately 46,000 sq ft — nearly three times the size of its September 2025 participation.

Visitors can explore destinations, discover travel innovations, and experience Malaysian hospitality through interactive activities designed to inspire their next journey.

The pavilion will also host Asia’s largest sports partnership activation by an airline, celebrating Malaysia Airlines’ collaborations with global clubs such as Manchester United and national sporting icons including Datuk Azizulhasni Awang.

The dedicated sports zone allows fans and travellers to engage with legends and favourite sports personalities, reinforcing how sport and travel connect people across borders and generations.

Through its network expansion and increased frequencies, Malaysia Airlines continues to strengthen Kuala Lumpur’s position as a key gateway to Asia and beyond, supporting Malaysia’s tourism ambitions under Visit Malaysia 2026 and advancing its goal of becoming one of the world’s Top 10 global airlines by 2030.
