KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 — Malaysia and Egypt will hold bilateral talks today to review progress in cooperation between the two countries and exchange views on regional and international issues.
In a Facebook post last night, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi would also witness the exchange of several memoranda of understanding between Malaysia and Egypt.
“After tabling the Fifth Madani Budget today, I proceeded directly to the Bunga Raya Complex at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to welcome the arrival of President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who is on a state visit at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia.
“Welcome to Malaysia, President El-Sisi!” he said.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement yesterday that El-Sisi was accompanied by Cabinet ministers and senior Egyptian government officials on his first state visit to Malaysia since assuming the presidency in June 2014.
Malaysia and Egypt established diplomatic relations in 1959.
In 2025, Egypt was Malaysia’s seventh-largest trading partner among African countries.
Bilateral trade amounted to RM3.08 billion (US$0.72 billion), with Malaysian exports to Egypt valued at RM2.55 billion (US$0.60 billion) and imports from Egypt totalling RM530 million (US$120 million).
From January to August 2026, total trade between the two countries rose by 74.7 per cent to RM3.49 billion (US$870 million). — Bernama
