KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 — A financial and corporate services company manager has had his remand extended for another three days from tomorrow to assist in the investigation into the submission of documents containing false information to obtain a tax reduction worth approximately RM200 million.
The remand order against the man in his 40s was issued by Magistrate Illya Syaheedah Mohd Razif after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) applied for the extension at the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court today.
The suspect will be remanded until October 6, after his initial three-day remand period, which began last Thursday, ended today.
The media previously reported that preliminary investigations found the suspect was believed to have manipulated approximately 480 company accounts using fraudulent documents between 2018 and this year.
The man is also believed to have bribed an enforcement agency official to facilitate his activities, in addition to allegedly accumulating extraordinary wealth through the illicit operations.
Further investigations by the MACC led to raids at 12 locations, including the suspect’s office and residential premises.
During the operation, the MACC seized 25 luxury vehicles estimated to be worth approximately RM25 million.
The MACC also froze seven bank accounts, comprising four personal accounts and three company accounts, with a total value of approximately RM3 million.
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman, when contacted, confirmed the remand extension and said the case is being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009. — Bernama
