KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to meet all Chief Ministers and Menteris Besar tomorrow to discuss the ongoing global energy crisis and its implications for Malaysia’s economy.
He said several key issues will be examined during the meeting, with a briefing to follow outlining the decisions taken.
“God willing, there will be several press conferences in the afternoon led by Deputy Prime Minister II Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, and potentially statements from the prime minister himself following the meeting,” he said at the ministry’s weekly press conference today.
In a Facebook post yesterday, Anwar urged Malaysians to brace for a more difficult global energy environment as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise.
The prime minister, who also serves as Finance Minister I, said the National Economic Action Council (NEAC) had held in-depth discussions on the deteriorating global energy situation and its possible impact on the country’s economy and the welfare of the rakyat.
“The global landscape is becoming increasingly uncertain and challenging, and Malaysia will inevitably feel the effects.
“We must not be complacent, but instead remain disciplined, resilient and united in facing these pressures,” he said.
He added that despite prevailing uncertainties, Malaysia’s economic fundamentals remain solid and resilient.
He also urged Malaysians to bolster the domestic economy by prioritising local products and supporting homegrown businesses, stressing that strong internal capacity is a crucial buffer against external shocks.
