KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 — The Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) has reduced the processing time for contributor benefit claims from an average of 5.3 days in 2024 to 2.7 days as of last year.

Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan said the service delivery improvement was carried out in compliance with the Client Charter to ensure quality standards remain at an optimal level.

He said the initial response time for complaint processing was also shortened from three days in 2024 to just one day in 2025.

“Beginning 2025, the processing time for each benefit application under the Employment Injury Scheme, Self-Employment Social Security Scheme and Housewives’ Social Security Scheme has been reduced from an average of 5.3 days the previous year to 2.7 days in 2025,” he said.

He was responding to a question from V. Ganabatirau (PH-Klang), who asked about reforms to improve Perkeso’s operational efficiency as well as the mismatch between the Invalidity Pension rate and the current cost of living.

He said that from January 1 to December 31, 2025, Perkeso’s Client Charter performance for the overall benefit claim and payment process across the three schemes averaged 96.86 per cent.

Addressing the issue of the Invalidity Pension, Khairul Firdaus said the government does not set pension rates arbitrarily, but rather reviews them periodically every three to five years.

He said these reviews take into account the rising cost of living, inflation rates and the sustainability of the organisation’s funds.

“Indicators and mechanisms for determining increases in the minimum pension rate, implemented by the ministry and Perkeso, are based on actuarial assessment studies by the International Labour Organisation, taking into consideration the current social and economic conditions in our country,” he said.

He added that the findings serve as a key benchmark in ensuring monthly payments are sufficient to help recipients make ends meet. — Bernama
