Vulnerable groups to be focus of Selangor Budget 2027, says MB

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 — Supporting vulnerable groups will be among the Selangor government’s main priorities in Budget 2027, with the aim of ensuring the state’s economic progress benefits people across all segments of society.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said Selangor’s development should go beyond strong economic performance and attracting investment to also addressing the needs of groups requiring greater attention, according to a Berita Harian report published today.

“We want to ensure that this state is not only developed with a good economy, that we are not only able to attract high investment, and that we can remain the ‘heartbeat of Malaysian economy’ or serve as an example in developing the artificial intelligence (AI), micro-business, microchip or semiconductor sectors.

“Instead, we need to look at specific groups that require attention so that the state’s economic progress and development are enjoyed fairly by the people of this state,” he said.

Amirudin said existing support programmes, including cash handouts and assistance under Bantuan Kehidupan Sejahtera Selangor (Bingkas) and YANIS, would be part of efforts to help vulnerable groups, including those affected by the current energy supply crisis.

He said this when summarising the Selangor Budget 2027 engagement session with the Selangor Menteri Besar at Selangor International Trade Centre (SITC), Section 14 in Shah Alam, today.

Amirudin said the first area of focus in the budget would be finding ways to assist vulnerable groups through a comprehensive support programme ecosystem while strengthening existing aid networks.

However, he said the challenge was to ensure that the support and programmes provided addressed the problems faced by vulnerable groups more accurately and meaningfully.

“Within the framework of looking at vulnerable groups, the groups at the top, or senior citizens and young people, are among those who deserve attention.

“Selangor is facing the challenge of becoming an ageing state in the near future, while every year people’s lifespan is increasing, and the birth rate is relatively…” he said.
