KANGAR, April 3 — Three individuals, including a married couple, were charged at the Magistrate’s Court here today with trafficking 510 kilogrammes (kg) of methamphetamine in Wang Kelian last month.
The accused, Mohd Rizuan Ramli, 37, and the married couple Muhammad Amir Aswad Ismail, 27, and Nur Atiqa Anis Ramadha Abdullah, 24, nodded in understanding after the charge was read before Magistrate Nurul Natasha Rizal.
However, no plea was recorded from all three accused as drug trafficking cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge, the three individuals were jointly accused of trafficking 510,000 grammes of methamphetamine at the main road near the mini tar junction at a TNB substation in Wang Kelian, Jalan Wang Kelian, Kaki Bukit near Padang Besar at about 9.30 am on March 24.
They were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same law, read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
The court did not allow bail for all the accused and set July 2 for mention pending the chemical report.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Alif Farhan Hassan appeared for the prosecution, while the accused were represented by lawyer Nur Iman Nor Azmi. — Bernama
