SEPANG, Nov 2 — AirAsia has advised guests travelling during the year-end peak travel period to plan ahead and allow sufficient time for their journeys amid increased passenger traffic and potentially adverse weather conditions.
The airline said the Northeast Monsoon (MTL), which began on October 27 and is expected to continue until March next year, could bring prolonged periods of heavy rain, particularly between November and January, potentially causing flooding and disruptions to flight operations due to thunderstorms and adverse weather.
“Guests are encouraged to stay informed and take the necessary precautions before travelling,” it said in a statement today, while recommending all guests take note of the following advisory.
Among others, guests are advised to check their flight status regularly through its official website, particularly 24 hours before departure and again before leaving for the airport, and to arrive at the airport at least three hours before departure for international flights and two hours for domestic flights.
“All guests, including those travelling under group bookings, are strongly encouraged to complete self check-in via the AirAsia MOVE app or our airasia.com. Self check-in is available from 14 days up to one hour before the scheduled departure time,” the statement read.
The airline also advised guests to allow additional time for airport transfers as heavy rain, flooding and traffic congestion could affect road conditions and journey times.
For convenient access to KLIA Terminal 2, guests are encouraged to use the Express Rail Link (ERL).
According to the statement, guests can use airport kiosks to print baggage tags and complete self-bag drop, while counter check-in services will be limited to guests with reduced mobility, those travelling with infants below 24 months, pregnant women, senior citizens and young guests travelling alone.
At the same time, AirAsia reminded guests to ensure their email addresses and mobile numbers in their bookings are updated to receive important flight notifications and updates.
“Those travelling to or from destinations affected by severe weather should check local forecasts and follow instructions issued by the relevant authorities,” it said.
Malaysian passport holders travelling internationally are also encouraged to download the MyNIISe or MyBorderPass app in advance to facilitate immigration clearance at KLIA Terminal 2.
In the event of flight disruptions, AirAsia said guests are advised to check their emails for updates and available self-service options, where applicable, or seek further assistance through AirAsia’s chatbot, Bo.
“Guests requiring mobility assistance can pre-book wheelchair services when making their reservations or through the ‘My Bookings’ section on the AirAsia MOVE app at least four hours before departure,” the statement read.
The airline also reminded guests that cabin baggage is limited to one piece measuring no more than 56 x 36 x 23 centimetres and one laptop bag, handbag or small bag, with the combined weight of both items not exceeding seven kilogrammes.
As for pregnant guests, they are required to complete a form at the counter before boarding, while those more than 27 weeks pregnant must submit an approved medical certificate from a doctor.
AirAsia said it would continue monitoring operational conditions and provide relevant updates to affected guests through the contact details provided in their bookings. — Bernama
