PUTRAJAYA, June 15 — The long-awaited Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) line is ready to begin operations by the end of this month, with Transport Minister Anthony Loke saying the official launch date will be announced within the next two weeks.

Speaking to reporters after the 62nd Annual General Meeting of the Malaysian Road Safety Council (MKJR) today, Loke said trial operations for the line have gone smoothly and the system is prepared for passenger service.

“LRT3 is expected to open by the end of this month. The specific date will be announced within the next two weeks.

“Trial operations have gone well and the system is ready. We expect it to begin operations before the end of the month,” he said.

Dubbed the Shah Alam line, LRT3 was supposed to launch last year; however, due to outstanding system stability and software issues identified during the testing and commissioning (T&C) phase, the operations did not commence.

The LRT3 is a 37.8-kilometre light-rail transit project connecting Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya/Damansara to Johan Setia in Klang.

The line traverses western Klang Valley, providing rail access to densely populated and rapidly developing areas, including Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam and Klang.
