KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today extended condolences on behalf of the Malaysian government to the people of Norway on the passing of King Harald V.
Anwar said King Harald would be remembered for his generous understanding of what it meant to be Norwegian, including his recognition of the country’s diverse society.
“He spoke of a country made up of people whose families came from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Poland and many other places, and affirmed that they, too, were Norwegian.
“His words were a reminder that a nation draws strength from the dignity it accords all its people,” he said in a statement via his Facebook,today.
Anwar said King Harald also understood the weight of an oath and the importance of remaining true to one’s commitments.
“Malaysia joins the people of Norway in mourning his passing,” the Prime Minister said.
King Harald V died on Friday at age 89 at the National Hospital in Oslo, after having been hospitalised since Aug 17 and was receiving cortisone treatment for hemolytic anemia. — Bernama
