CYBERJAYA, Aug 26 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on Malaysians to pray that the haze situation will be brought under control ahead of the National Day celebration on August 31 and Malaysia Day on September 16.

He said preparations involving the government machinery were currently being stepped up for the two annual events.

“Let us pray to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala that the haze will be more manageable so that the celebrations can be held,” he said when launching Telekom Malaysia Bhd’s 80th anniversary celebrations here today.

Also present were Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Earlier, Fahmi said at his weekly press conference that Shamsul Azri would make an announcement if there were any changes to the 2026 National Day celebration following the haze situation affecting several areas in the country.

Fahmi, who is also the Madani Government spokesman, said options being considered included changing the scale or location of the celebration, adding that the government had no plans to cancel the National Day celebration scheduled for August 31. — Bernama
