PUTRAJAYA, Sept 8 — Cooperation and consensus among members of the Cabinet are, as a whole, at a good level, thereby contributing to the country’s political stability, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said this had enabled the government to plan and implement the country’s development agenda based on clear policies and a stable political environment.
“True, we cannot deny that our performance has been commendable because we have clear policies, political stability and cooperation within the Cabinet, although sometimes on social media it is a little different.
“But in terms of cooperation, we generally have good consensus and this provides an indication of stability and allows us to plan for the country,” he said when delivering his address during his meeting with the staff of the Ministry of Plantations and Commodities here today.
Anwar said the existing stability must be leveraged by the government to continue planning and implementing policies that benefit the country and the people as a whole.
At the same time, the Prime Minister reminded all parties not to become complacent with the achievements attained, but instead to continue striving to improve the government’s performance.
He said commendable achievements should not cause the government to “become complacent and bask in the comfort of success”, but should instead serve as an encouragement to continue working hard for the national interest.
“It’s true, it cannot be denied, our performance is commendable because of our clear policies, our political stability and the cooperation within the ministries, although sometimes on social media things are a little different,” he said.
Meanwhile, Anwar said that economic growth in the second quarter of this year also recorded a better performance than expected despite facing challenges.
Malaysia is reported to have continued to record stronger-than-expected performance for three consecutive quarters, growing by six per cent in the second quarter of 2026 compared with 5.4 per cent recorded in the previous quarter.
This was the strongest second-quarter performance outside the pandemic period since 2014.
The second quarter 2026 performance brought the country’s first-half 2026 growth to 5.7 per cent, thus placing the Malaysian economy on a solid footing to achieve the government’s projected growth of between 4.0 per cent and 5.0 per cent for 2026. — Bernama
