KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had informed the Cabinet that Barisan Nasional (BN), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) had reaffirmed their support for the unity government and pledged to remain with the administration until the end of the current term.
Fahmi said the prime minister also expressed appreciation during today’s Cabinet meeting for the continued commitment shown by component parties in the Madani government.
“He said the parties had reaffirmed their support for the unity government and their commitment to remain with the administration until the end of the current term.
“The commitment reflects the priority placed on the interests of the people and the country,” he told a weekly press conference at the ministry here.
Fahmi said the commitment would allow the government to remain focused on addressing economic challenges arising from the crisis in West Asia while ensuring the welfare of the rakyat continued to be protected.
Separately, he said no discussions were held during the Cabinet meeting regarding any resignation involving the government.
“The only matter mentioned was preparations for the Dewan Rakyat sitting beginning on June 22, including the two ministers vacating their seats,” he said.
Fahmi was referring to former ministers Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who had officially announced their departure from PKR to join Parti Bersama Malaysia.
