PASIR PUTEH, May 9 — A 12-year-old boy was killed after being crushed by a concrete block while playing in front of his home in Kampung Telaga Papan, Semerak, here yesterday, Harian Metro reported.
In the 2.30pm incident, Mohammad Yusof Nor Ismail was believed to have been playing in a sand excavation area near the concrete blocks together with his uncle, Mohd Yunus Nasir, who is also 12.
Pasir Puteh police chief Superintendent Saari Yaacob said a family member later alerted others after the two children were found to have fallen into a sand pit and were discovered trapped under a concrete block.
“The victim was found unconscious, and the family contacted the Cherang Ruku Health Clinic. A health assistant later confirmed that the child had died,” he told Harian Metro when contacted
Saari added that another child sustained neck injuries and was sent to Tengku Anis Hospital (HTA) for treatment.
Earlier, Jejak Jalanan activist Tengku Mohd Harith Hakimin Tengku Abdul Azis said the victim’s family were recipients of monthly aid from the non-governmental organisation.
He said the boy’s body is still at HTA for post-mortem arrangements, and the NGO will assist with burial matters.
