KUALA LUMPUR, May 17 — City Hall (DBKL) intensified its enforcement efforts in the city centre on Friday, targeting unlicensed business activities and hygiene violations along Jalan Haji Hussien in Chow Kit.
The “Integrated Business Activity Enforcement Operation,” conducted alongside the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM), focused on a variety of businesses, including restaurants, grocery stores, and roadside stalls, many of which were found to be operated by foreign nationals.
During the operation, DBKL enforcement officers issued 17 compound notices for various administrative offences.
These included operating without a valid business licence, the illegal employment of foreign workers, and the absence of the licence holder at the premises. Several traders were also penalised for obstructing public pathways.
Under the Local Government (Hawker Licensing) (WPKL) By-Laws 2016 and the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974, DBKL officers seized a variety of equipment and merchandise that had been placed illegally in parking bays and public areas.
Items removed to the DBKL Seizure Warehouse for documentation included canopies, wheeled stalls, tables, chairs, grocery items, and fresh fruits.
In a concurrent inspection, DBKL health officers issued an additional five compounds to restaurant owners and food stall operators.
These penalties were handed out for hygiene-related breaches, including the failure to install grease traps, operating without a health inspection, and generally poor premise cleanliness, violating the Local Government (Food Premises Licensing) (WPKL) By-Laws 2016.
A DBKL spokesman confirmed that the operation proceeded smoothly without any untoward incidents or provocation.
DBKL said it will continue to intensify these enforcement operations regularly.
“Our goal is to ensure the city remains clean, safe, and orderly for the well-being of all residents,” it said.
Members of the public are encouraged to report any illegal business activities or cleanliness concerns through official DBKL communication channels.
