KUALA LUMPUR, May 15 — The Ministry of Transport (MOT) approved an additional RM1.5 million allocation to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to construct and upgrade bus stops across the federal capital.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the move follows complaints from public transport users about the lack of proper bus facilities at several locations in Kuala Lumpur.

“One common complaint we receive from city dwellers is that they often have to wait by the roadside because there is no proper bus stand, designated area, or signage. We want to fix this,” he said in his speech at the launch of the Segambut Utara Railway Station today.

Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, and Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud.

Loke said the cost to construct or upgrade each bus stop is estimated to be between RM15,000 and RM30,000, and the allocation should cover work on about 100 bus stops.

He added that a similar project had previously been implemented by the MOT in collaboration with local authorities in Penang.

“We hope DBKL will be faster than Penang. If Penang took six months, DBKL might complete these 100 bus stops within three months,” he said.

At the same time, Loke expressed his appreciation to DBKL for its commitment to continuing the free GoKL bus service for city residents.

He said the GoKL fleet has also improved, including the introduction of electric buses, to enhance the public transport experience in the capital. — Bernama
