KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul today confirmed Wong Chen’s resignation as Subang MP.

He said that he has informed the Election Commissions (EC) regarding the matter.

“As everyone is aware, the Honourable Member for Subang has submitted a letter to me to relinquish his membership, effective yesterday, as a Member of the Dewan Rakyat.

“I have informed the EC of the vacancy in the Subang parliamentary seat in accordance with Article 54(1) of the Federal Constitution” he said before the start of the special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat today.

Wong Chen on August 5 said that he had met up with Johari to hand over his resignation letter, allowing parliamentary officers three working days to prepare for the vacancy.

The three-term PKR MP also said that his team will be removing the honorific title of Yang Berhormat from all their billboards, signages and correspondence by next month.

Wong Chen is expected to hold a press conference tomorrow at 11am.
