KOTA KINABALU, Aug 30 — A fire broke out at stilt houses in a squatter area in Kampung Numbak here early this morning, with the number of houses involved yet to be confirmed as firefighters continue to battle the blaze.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), in a statement, said it received an emergency call at 1.40am, following which firefighters were deployed and arrived at the scene, located 18 kilometres away, at 1.58am.
“A total of 39 personnel from the Kota Kinabalu, Lintas and Penampang Fire and Rescue Stations (BBP) were deployed to the scene to carry out firefighting operations,” it said.
According to the Sabah JBPM, firefighters were battling the blaze using two streams and four water jets, with water supplied by fire engines.
Efforts to extinguish the fire are still ongoing, and further information on the incident will be provided from time to time.
No information on victims has been received so far, with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and other relevant agencies also assisting in the firefighting operations. — Bernama
