PUTRAJAYA, Aug 24 — The government has cast the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) findings on Tabung Haji’s management between 2014 and 2020 as part of a wider push to tighten governance, strengthen accountability and restore public confidence in national institutions.

Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said the government respects the investigation process and any action must be taken in accordance with the law and by the relevant authorities.

From an economic perspective, he noted, Tabung Haji’s governance is crucial given its scale and role.

“With investments exceeding RM96 billion, Tabung Haji’s governance has wider implications for confidence in institutions and the domestic market. The priority is to ensure investment management, financial discipline and risk oversight continue to be strengthened so depositors’ interests are sustainably protected,” he said in a statement today.

As of early August, Tabung Haji reported that more than 75 per cent of the RCI’s recommendations had been implemented, with the remainder still in progress.
