KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 — Ferry services to Langkawi from Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis will increase from tomorrow in anticipation of higher passenger traffic during the school holidays and Aidiladha celebrations.
According to Berita Harian, Konsortium Ferry Line Ventures Sdn Bhd operations manager Norhafiz Abdul Wahid said one additional daily trip from both ferry terminals has been scheduled to accommodate rising demand from domestic and international tourists.
He said ferry operations from Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis had previously been reduced to three trips daily since March 25 following the increase in diesel prices.
“Starting tomorrow until June 2, based on online and counter ticket sales, demand has been quite high, forcing us to add another trip at both terminals.
“At the same time, we have to be cautious with the increase in ferry trips, especially in terms of diesel purchases, to avoid major losses.
“The increase is based on demand, and if demand continues to rise, the operations division is prepared to add more ferry trips depending on ticket sales,” he reportedly said today.
Norhafiz said the company requires at least 48 hours to prepare additional ferry services and would otherwise avoid doing so due to the risk of incurring significant losses.
He said demand for travel from Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis to Langkawi between tomorrow and June 2 has already exceeded 10,000 passengers.
He added that ferry tickets are still available for purchase and advised the public to buy them early to avoid sell-outs.
“For now, weather conditions are good despite monsoon-related rain, and no ferries have had to turn back so far. Services are continuing as usual.
“Many people want to travel to Langkawi, not only because of the Hari Raya holidays but also due to the school holidays,” he said.
Norhafiz also encouraged travellers to purchase tickets online through the “Cuti-Cuti Langkawi” application to avoid disappointment at ferry counters.
