MELAKA, Aug 16 — Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Wanita chief Fadhlina Sidek has urged party members to remain election-ready at all times and not wait for Parliament to be dissolved before making preparations.
She said the country’s political landscape was highly dynamic and could change at any time, including the possibility that parties currently in government would choose to negotiate with other political forces.
Fadhlina, who is the Education Minister, said PKR members must be prepared from now and not wait for Parliament to be dissolved or candidates to be announced, as they were politicians who knew what was happening around them.
“We must strengthen PKR so that whoever is with us, we remain strong. Whoever leaves us, we remain strong. We have the spirit.
“We have members who believe in the struggle, who are willing to knock on one door, then another, and then go down another street because they believe this country can change,” Fadhlina said in her winding-up speech at the PKR National Congress 2026 here today.
On the role of women in the party, Fadhlina said PKR must not merely rely on women as campaign workers, but instead provide them with greater opportunities to take on leadership roles.
“Involve them in decision-making, because if we want to convince society, particularly women, to vote for PKR, they too need to believe and see that the party truly believes in women’s leadership,” she said.
On governance, she said the party and government leadership must remain open to criticism, particularly when weaknesses were identified in decisions that had been made.
Fadhlina said the mandate given by the people must be used to do what was right, rather than merely pursuing popularity or taking the easy way out.
“I am not saying that all our decisions are always right. I am also not saying that we cannot be criticised.
“By all means, criticise us; there is no problem, this is our family. If something is not good enough, we improve it,” she said. — Bernama
