PUTRAJAYA, Aug 30 — A total of 15 government hospitals are among the initial group that will benefit from an allocation of RM1 billion to strengthen the digital efficiency of the public health sector, said Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
Fahmi, who is also the Madani Government spokesperson, said the allocation, which was increased from RM650 million as previously announced, would accelerate the implementation of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system as well as the provision of Internet access including public WiFi at health clinics and government hospitals.
“I will hold a discussion, initially 15 hospitals are expected to be completed but I will ask that this figure be increased further and from 2,000 health clinics, we will try to increase the number that can be managed for this year.
“This increase in allocation is aimed at accelerating efforts for digital access at health clinics and government hospitals as well as the e-medical record programme that we have implemented through the collaboration of MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) and the Ministry of Health,” he said.
He said this when met by reporters after the Prime Minister’s National Day Address at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), here today.
He said the pilot implementation of the EMR system at the Padang Besar Health Clinic had enabled doctors to access patient information electronically without having to refer to physical documents, thus saving time for those seeking treatment.
Meanwhile, Fahmi said the Ministry of Communications would help ensure that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s message on various government assistance and successes was effectively conveyed to people.
He said further information on the offer of free subscription to artificial intelligence (AI) applications for 100,000 young people aged 18-30 years if they participate in the AI for the People programme, will be announced later.
Earlier, when delivering the Prime Minister’s Address on National Day, Anwar announced six major initiatives, including an allocation of RM1 billion to speed up treatment and reduce waiting times through the EMR system.
In addition, he also announced that the government agreed to restore the basic eligibility of the Budi Madani RON95 (BUDI95) Programme from 200 litres to 300 litres per month, BUDI Diesel from 300 litres to 400 litres per month, increase the e-Invoice exemption threshold from RM1 million to RM3 million per year, as well as free AI subscriptions to young people.
Anwar said the allocation for the maintenance of all types of schools for 2027 would be increased by 50 per cent, from RM1 billion to RM1.5 billion, introduce a RM200 million Madani Sejahtera Grant, to help hawkers, night market traders and mothers who trade from home, while micro-financing facilities will be increased by RM1 billion, bringing the total fund for 2026 to RM6 billion. — Bernama
