KAJANG, Aug 22 — A 47-year-old woman was killed instantly when a falling pole struck her during a chaotic attempt to stop an errant driver at a food court in Bandar Mahkota, Cheras.

The tragedy unfolded on Thursday, Aug 22, when a 35-year-old male driver accidentally pressed his accelerator pedal, sending his vehicle crashing directly into the food court’s dining area, The Star reported.

Kajang OCPD Assistant Commissioner Naazron Abdul Yusof explained that as the driver attempted to flee the scene, the victim ran toward the car in an effort to block its path.

However, the vehicle collided with a nearby pole, causing the structure to topple directly onto the woman.

Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene due to fatal head injuries.

The driver was arrested and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. Police confirmed that the man has no prior criminal record.

Investigations are ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
