KAMPAR, Aug 19 — A family member of the victims involved in the early morning crash involving a Malaysian Immigration Department lorry on Jalan Sultan Ismail is calling for a full and transparent investigation to ensure justice is served for his loved ones.

Mohd Nadzri Razali, 69, brother-in-law of the late Shaik Mohd Firdaus Shaikh Yahya, 53, said he heard that the lorry allegedly ran a red light at the accident site.

“I hope for a full investigation, because it is claimed that the traffic light was red. That’s what I heard… I ask for justice for my brother-in-law and his family,” he said at his home in Taman Aman Fasa 2, Mambang Di Awam today.

He said his younger sister Norhayati Razali, 55, is still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

“I don’t know if they’ll allow her to be discharged. It depends on her condition. I heard that she has regained consciousness. If possible, we would like to transfer her to Hospital Ipoh or Teluk Intan for further treatment,” he said.

“We will bury all three remains in a single grave at the Muslim Cemetery in Kampung Air Hitam Labu, Kampar,” he said.

Mohd Nadzri, who lives in the same neighbourhood as his sister’s family, said the loss of three family members at once came as a great shock and is heartbreaking, especially since the family had only recently lost another member on May 30.

He said the last time he saw them was about two weeks ago, when they had returned to clean the graves of family members in Teluk Bakong, Ayer Tawar.

The crash occurred around 1 am, when an empty Isuzu Black Maria Immigration lorry was travelling from the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Office to Chow Kit for an operation against undocumented migrants.

It apparently entered the Maju Junction intersection while the traffic light at its lane was red, with its beacon lights and siren activated. At the same time, a Proton Saga moving straight on a green light was reportedly unable to avoid the lorry and collided with it.

The impact sent the lorry careering out of control and into a skid, mowing down four pedestrians, who were members of the same family, along with an Inokom Matrix multi-purpose vehicle.

Three of the pedestrians, Shaik Mohd Firdaus Shaikh Yahya and his two daughters, Siti Nor Sazlin, 25, and Siti Darwisyah Auni, 12, were killed at the scene. The mother, Norhayati Razali, was severely injured.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
