KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 — Four residents were rescued after a fire gutted a first-floor apartment at Subang Perdana Goodyear Court 7 in USJ today, trapping occupants in an upper-floor unit due to thick smoke.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said firefighters received an emergency call at 10.02am and arrived at the apartment block in Jalan USJ 14/1 about 10 minutes later, reported Harian Metro.
A total of 17 firefighters from the Subang Jaya and Puchong fire stations were deployed to the scene.
The fire destroyed an estimated 80 per cent of the first-floor apartment.
Ashrul Riezal said the unit was rented by a man in his 20s, who was rescued along with three foreign nationals — a man in his 20s and two women in their 20s — who were staying in the unit above and were unable to escape because of the dense smoke.
Firefighters later brought the blaze under control, he added.
