Floods: One PPS in Perak closed; number of victims drop last night

IPOH, May 12 — The temporary evacuation centre (PPS) at the Kampung Klah Baru multipurpose hall, which housed six flood victims from a family in the Batang Padang district, was closed earlier yesterday.

The District Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said that, in this regard, there are still 38 victims from 10 families taking shelter at the PPS in Sekolah Kebangsaan Matang Gelugor in the Larut, Matang and Selama district.

“All the victims are residents of Kampung Matang Pasir who had taken shelter at the PPS since 1.30 am today following the flood disaster in the village,” said the statement.

Meanwhile, the Perak Irrigation and Drainage Department reported that the water level in the Sungai Kinta at Tanjung Tualang is at a dangerous level with a reading of 13.57 metres (m), exceeding the normal level of 10 m.

The Sungai Bidor in Changkat Jong also recorded a dangerous level of 3.72 m above the normal level of two metres, while the Sungai Slim in Slim River also recorded a dangerous level of 26.91 m above the normal level of 23.5 m. — Bernama
