PETALING JAYA, June 27 — A 28 year old food delivery rider, who asked to be identified only as Man (not his real name), was injured after being assaulted by a customer in Kelana Jaya yesterday.
“I just wanted to deliver the food and collect payment, but was suddenly attacked simply because I had overshot the location after failing to find the address,” he told Berita Harian (BH).
Man had collected an order from a fast food outlet at a petrol station in Kelana Jaya at about 4.45am for delivery to a premises in Taman Rasa Sayang. When he arrived around 5.30am, he was unable to locate the unit and contacted the customer, who only asked if he had reached downstairs before ending the call.
He later approached two men believed to be the customer and his companion, when one began scolding him. Man displayed the QR code for payment, but before any transaction was made another man moved behind his motorcycle. The situation escalated when the customer struck his helmet and the companion punched him in the face.
In the ensuing commotion, his mobile phone was seized and smashed on the ground. As more men appeared from the shop lot, Man fled towards a nearby housing area and sought help from a resident before calling the police.
Police arrived at the scene around 6.15am and instructed him to lodge a report.
According to BH, Petaling Jaya deputy police chief Superintendent M. Hussin Sollehuddin Zolkifly confirmed receiving a report on the incident. He said the case is being investigated under Section 323 and Section 427 of the Penal Code.
