Four men, a folding knife and RM30,000: Police probe alleged gang robbery near Sungai Petani courthouse

SUNGAI PETANI, Sept 19 — A 22-year-old man claimed he was robbed of RM30,000 in company funds by four men in an incident yesterday.

Kuala Muda District Police Chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said preliminary investigations indicated that the incident occurred at about 4.30pm yesterday near the Sungai Petani Court Complex here.

“However, the victim only lodged a police report at the Sungai Petani Police Station at about 7am today.

“The victim claimed that he was approached by four men travelling in a car, before a struggle broke out between him and one of the suspects, who was armed with a folding knife,” he said in a statement today.

Hanyan said the victim told police that the suspect attempted to stab him during the struggle, but he managed to wrest the knife away before stabbing the attacker.

“The victim also claimed that the suspect’s accomplices struck him, causing him to fall to the ground, before the group fled with the company money kept in the car and one of his bank cards.

“The complainant only came forward to lodge a police report the following day, before the incident went viral on social media,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Sections 395/397 and 182 of the Penal Code.

Hanyan said further investigations were underway, and witnesses to the incident were urged to come forward to assist in the probe.

“The victim will also be sent to hospital for a medical examination after claiming to have sustained injuries in the incident,” he said. — Bernama
