PUTRAJAYA, Oct 30 — The development allocations provided for reforms under the confidence and supply agreement (CSA) will be monitored jointly by the government and the parties that signed the agreement, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said.
He said the monitoring would follow a mechanism established under the previous CSA, which involved joint assessments by both parties to determine whether the agreed commitments had been fulfilled.
“We believe this could be one way of implementing the monitoring process, similar to what we witnessed previously.
“The government intends to fulfil the commitments made under this CSA, particularly those involving institutional reforms.
“We hope that, with the strong support received, we will be able to implement these reforms,” he said at his weekly post-Cabinet press conference here.
Yesterday, Bersatu signed the CSA in Parliament, pledging its support for the Supply Bill 2027, or Budget 2027.
Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin told reporters that, in return, the government had agreed to provide the party’s MPs with the same constituency development allocations given to government MPs.
He said the agreement also covered institutional reforms, including proposals to limit the prime minister’s tenure to two terms and separate the powers of the Attorney General.
Muhyiddin stressed that Bersatu would remain in the Opposition and continue to provide checks and balances.
Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was also among those involved in the signing, which was facilitated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Fahmi described the latest CSA signing as a positive development for the country’s political stability, saying it reflected a spirit of cooperation in implementing various institutional reform initiatives.
He also clarified that the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU), or CSA, was not limited to the 13 MPs involved.
He said the agreement remained open to any other MP who wished to come forward for discussions and sign it.
“Therefore, the door for further discussions remains open,” he said.
