KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 — Upgrading works at Lembah Kiara Park costing RM6.5 million have been completed, with most of the allocation spent on rehabilitating the park’s drainage system, retention ponds and electrical infrastructure.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said the recreational park, located within Bukit Kiara Federal Park, is managed by the National Landscape Department (JLN) and not Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
She said only about RM700,000 of the total project cost was allocated for landscaping works, including repairs to pedestrian walkways, two gazebos and related facilities, while the remainder was used for infrastructure upgrades and drainage rehabilitation.
“RM2.5 million was allocated to upgrade the park’s electrical system, including feeder pillars, underground cables and the replacement of 233 damaged lamp posts,” she said after inspecting the park here yesterday.
She said the remaining RM3.3 million was used for pond and drainage rehabilitation works, including the restoration of the upstream pond, sediment basin, streams and the park’s main retention pond.
The upgrading project also involved the construction of two eco-walls, desilting works and the installation of maintenance facilities to improve pond management efficiency and reduce future maintenance costs, Hannah added.
She said the park has reopened to the public following the completion of the upgrading works, with operating hours from 5.30 am to 8 pm.
The project remains under a one-year defects liability period until April next year, during which JLN and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) will continue to monitor the upgraded facilities, she said.
Hannah also expressed appreciation to JLN, JPS and representatives from Kampung Sungai Penchala and Taman Tun Dr Ismail who joined the site visit, describing the project as an initiative long-awaited by the local community. — Bernama
