KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 — Ten areas across Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak are currently experiencing hot weather conditions, with temperatures reaching caution-level thresholds, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In its latest hot weather status update issued at 6am today, MetMalaysia said six locations in Peninsular Malaysia and four in Sarawak were under Level 1 hot weather status.

The affected areas in Peninsular Malaysia are Machang and Kuala Krai in Kelantan, Kulim and Bandar Baharu in Kedah, as well as Larut and Matang and Kuala Kangsar in Perak.

In Sarawak, the districts of Marudi, Lawas, Sibu and Kapit were also placed under the same alert level.

MetMalaysia said the caution-level classification is triggered when a location records a daily maximum temperature of between 35°C and 37°C s for at least three consecutive days.

The agency advised the public to remain vigilant during the ongoing hot spell, particularly vulnerable groups such as children, older persons and those with existing health conditions.

Malaysia typically experiences hotter and drier conditions during the south-west monsoon season, which runs from May to September.

MetMalaysia said the public can monitor the latest hot weather status and forecasts through its official website and social media channels.

No higher-level heat alerts were reported as of this morning.
