KOTA KINABALU, May 23 — A 56-year-old man was fined RM50 or one day’s jail by the Magistrate’s Court for having nine rolls of tissue paper believed to be stolen.
Yesterday, Patrick Chau pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to the offence at 9.19am on May 10.
The offence under Section 22A (1) of the Sabah Minor Offences Ordinance carries a fine of up to RM100 or a jail term of up to three months, or both, on conviction.
The prosecution said Chau was seen leaving the hotel toilet area towards the parking area before being stopped.
However, investigations could not confirm that all nine tissue rolls belonged to the hotel as they did not bear any hotel markings.
Chau also failed to provide a satisfactory explanation as to how he obtained the items.
