Indian Air Force transport plane crashes during landing in Assam, casualties unknown

NEW DELHI, June 13 — A Russian-made Indian military transport aircraft crashed while attempting to land at an air force station in the country’s remote northeast today, the military said.

“An IAF An-32 aircraft met with an accident today while landing at Jorhat. A court of inquiry is being constituted, to ascertain the cause of the accident,” the Indian Air Force said in a statement.

The military did not provide details on casualties.

News channel NDTV broadcast images from the crash site showing a thick plume of black smoke rising into the air and the aircraft apparently broken into several pieces.

An investigation has been ordered to determine the cause of the crash. — AFP
