KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 — Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob arrived at the Sessions Court here this morning to face charges related to his asset declaration.
The 66-year-old Bera MP arrived in a wheelchair at about 8.30am before meeting several supporters who had gathered outside the court, Kosmo! Online reported.
The charges are expected to be read before Judge Suzana Hussin today.
His lawyer Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad yesterday confirmed that Ismail Sabri would appear in court to face the charges.
The proceedings, originally scheduled for August 7, were postponed to today after Amer Hamzah sought a deferment as his client was receiving treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN).
Ismail Sabri had previously been called several times by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to have his statement recorded in connection with the asset declaration he made to the agency.
MACC also seized RM170 million in cash in various foreign currencies and confiscated 16kg of pure gold bars estimated to be worth RM7 million as part of a corruption and money-laundering investigation involving him.
The seizures were made during searches of residences and an office allegedly used as a “safe house” following investigations into four of Ismail Sabri’s senior officers, who were arrested in February 2025.
