JOHOR BAHRU, July 8 — Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident that support from non-Malay voters, especially Chinese and Indian communities, has been encouraging throughout the Johor election campaign period, said Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
He said this can be seen by the Indian and Chinese voters’ positive reception towards BN candidates and leaders at events.
“This growing momentum is interesting as I have already travelled to about two-thirds of Johor.
“For us, our campaign is easy. We don’t make promises and have based our performance on facts. I believe that is what matters most,” he told reporters after a state-level entrepreneur gathering programme at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre here today.
Asyraf said BN will focus on expanding their house-to-house and personal engagement, including reaching out to fence-sitters and non-traditional party voters, in the last leg of the election campaign.
He said unlike other political parties that have large scale ceramahs, BN’s focus has always been more of a personal reach to voters by party volunteers.
“This approach is more effective for BN as the volunteers will focus on meeting as many voters as possible,” he said.
Asyraf said other focus areas are to remind parents to encourage their children to return and cast their votes on polling day.
He also reminded the coalition’s machinery to be in their best behaviour and maintain their manners when meeting voters.
BN is contesting in all 56 state seats in the Johor election that will be on July 11.
