ISKANDAR PUTERI, June 8 — Barisan Nasional (BN) will finalise its full list of candidates for the Johor State Election in the near future.
BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the negotiation process regarding seat allocation involving component parties is also currently in its final stages and is nearing completion.
“We will finalise (the candidate list) within a short period from now. Our seat allocation is almost finalised, and I will negotiate with the component parties of Barisan Nasional while I am here in Johor,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid said this during a press conference after officiating the Launching Ceremony of the Johor State BN Election Machinery at the EduCity Sports Complex Indoor Stadium, here yesterday.
Commenting on the return of former party leaders, Ahmad Zahid described the development of the ‘Rumah Bangsa’ initiative as an extraordinary morale booster for the coalition’s machinery.
Ahmad Zahid said that the majority of them have already held official meetings with him and volunteered to take to the field to help secure victories for BN candidates.
“This ‘Rumah Bangsa’ has received an incredibly overwhelming response. Not only are former Umno leaders who once went astray now returning, but they have also volunteered to help ensure the victory of Barisan Nasional candidates.
“What is even more impressive is the impact among the youth, as this group comprises approximately 82 per cent of the total applications received by the party,” he said.
In light of this, he said that combining the influence of veteran figures with the wave of support from new young voters could attract votes, including from the 18-year-old voter group (Undi18) and other young voters, to ensure an absolute victory for BN in Johor.
Previously, Johor BN announced that it would contest all 56 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats in the upcoming state election.
In the 2022 Johor State Election, Umno-Barisan Nasional won 40 out of 56 seats, while Pakatan Harapan won 12, Perikatan Nasional (three), and Muda won one.
Ahmad Zahid added that BN is determined to restore Johor’s status as an absolute stronghold or a ‘fixed deposit’ for the party in the upcoming state election.
The Umno President said that the main objective of the machinery right now is to secure a dominant victory, thereby proving that the birthplace of Umno remains the mainstay of the nation’s political stability.
“Do not let anyone intimidate the people of Johor by claiming that BN is only for a single race. We answer them clearly: Bangsa Johor is strong because of BN.
“We will make Johor a fixed deposit for BN in this country once again. We will make BN the mainstay of stability after this election,” he said.
He said that a strong mandate from the people of Johor is crucial to forming a powerful government capable of fending off all forms of experimental politics and the agendas of vengeance brought by the opposition.
“We want to instil a principle that we are strong not because our opponents are weak, but we are strong because we work for the people and all of Bangsa Johor,” he said.
