KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 — Police are tracking down a man suspected of impersonating a civil servant by wearing a security force uniform and using a background resembling a government office to deceive members of the public.
Kajang police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said a report regarding the incident was received at 6.58pm yesterday.
He said investigations are being conducted under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a civil servant.
“Members of the public with any information regarding the incident are urged to contact Investigating Officer Sgt Siti Aidah Yem at 010-2176278 to assist in the investigation,” he said in a statement today.
Naazron also urged the public to report any suspected criminal activity through the MERS 999 emergency line or the Kajang District Police Control Centre at 03-8911 4243.
Yesterday, a post went viral on the Threads application after a woman claimed she was targeted in an attempted scam involving an individual posing as a police officer from the Kajang District Police Headquarters (IPD) and another claiming to be an officer from a government ministry, raising suspicion over the authenticity of the interaction. — Bernama
