KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 — KTM Komuter Klang Valley and Electric Train Service (ETS) operations have been disrupted after a third-party construction incident near Batang Benar damaged the overhead electrical system along the railway track.
In a statement, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) said the incident occurred during bridge construction works by a Public Works Department (JKR) contractor for a wayleave project, which it said was carried out without obtaining approval from KTMB.
It said a wooden structure from the construction site fell onto the railway track and struck the overhead line system between Batang Benar and Labu, causing damage to the electricity supply system and affecting train operations.
Due to the disruption, KTM Komuter services from Pulau Sebang heading towards KL Sentral will terminate at Seremban station, while services towards KL Sentral and Batu Caves will only begin from Bangi station.
KTMB said no KTM Komuter services will operate between Bangi and Seremban until further notice, and advised affected passengers to seek alternative transport to continue their journeys.
Three shuttle bus services have been deployed to assist passengers travelling from Seremban, Tiroi, Batang Benar, Labu and Bangi stations.
For affected ETS services, seven shuttle buses have been provided at KL Sentral, Bandar Tasik Selatan, Kajang and Seremban stations to help passengers continue their journeys.
Passengers who choose not to proceed with their ETS journey from their departure station will be eligible for a full fare refund, KTMB said.
The rail operator added that its technical team was working to repair the overhead line system and restore train services as soon as possible.
KTMB apologised for the inconvenience caused by the unexpected incident, adding that passenger safety and train operations remained its priority.
