Magnitude 5.9 earthquake strikes northern Sumatra, no tsunami threat to Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 — A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 struck Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, at 4.06am today.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said in a statement that the quake, at a depth of 18km, occurred 67km west of Nias, Indonesia.

However, there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia. — Bernama
