KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — Malaysia’s export unit value index in July 2026 increased by 0.6 per cent month-on-month (m-o-m) to 163.6 points from 162.6 points in the previous month, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM).
In a statement today, DOSM attributed this to increases in the index of mineral fuels, manufactured goods and machinery and transport equipment.
It said the export volume index also rose by 8.1 per cent in line with increases in the indices of chemical, machinery and transport equipment, and manufactured goods.
“Seasonally adjusted export volume index rose by 7.9 per cent to 223.3 points from 206.9 points.
“On an annual comparison basis, both the export unit value index and the volume index expanded by 8.1 per cent and 27.7 per cent, respectively,” it said.
Meanwhile, the import unit value index fell by 1.2 per cent to 129.2 points from 130.8 points, mainly due to declines in the indices of mineral fuels and chemicals, DOSM said.
It said the import volume index was 14 per cent higher in July 2026 compared with the previous month, driven by increases in the indices of food, machinery and transport equipment, and manufactured goods.
“The seasonally adjusted import volume index was 13.2 per cent higher at 199.7 points from 176.4 points. A year-on-year (y-o-y) comparison showed that the import unit value index and the import volume index increased by 3.4 per cent and 25.0 per cent, respectively,” it added.
According to DOSM, Malaysia’s terms of trade expanded 1.9 per cent m-o-m to 126.6 points in July 2026 from 124.3 points due to a rise in the index of mineral fuels, manufactured goods and inedible crude materials.
“Malaysia’s terms of trade increased by 4.5 per cent y-o-y to 126.6 points compared with 121.1 points in July of the previous year,” it said. – Bernama
