
KOTA KINABALU, May 22 — A 48-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with the murder of a man whose body was found floating in waters off Kampung Lobong, Pulau Gaya, earlier this month.
No plea was recorded from Ali Daham when he appeared before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin, as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
Ali was accused of murdering Shazwan Salim at a water village house in Kampung Pondo, Pulau Gaya, at about 9am on May 4.
The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the death penalty, or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years and not fewer than 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
The court fixed July 14 for mention pending the post-mortem and chemist’s reports. — Daily Express
