
KANGAR, Aug 12 — A man was sentenced to two years in prison by the Sessions Court here today after pleading guilty to injuring and attempting to murder his wife in September last year.
Judge Sharifah Norazlita Syed Salim Idid sentenced Mohd Hasmi Mohd Salleh, 39, to one year in prison for intentionally causing hurt to his wife and two years for attempting to murder her, with the sentences to run concurrently from the date of his arrest on Sept 21, 2025.
On the first charge, Mohd Hasmi was accused of punching his wife, Norzuraida Don Khodet, on her right arm, causing bruising. The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read with Section 326A, which provides for a maximum two-year prison sentence, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
He was also charged under Section 307 of the Penal Code with attempting to murder his wife by trying to hit her with a Proton Wira Aeroback, an offence punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine.
The offences were committed at 3.10 am and 3.25 am at Jalan Haji Hamid, Kampung Jelempok, Arau, on Sept 20, 2025. — Bernama
