SUNGAI PETANI, Sept 17 — Four masked men armed with hammers and sharp weapons robbed a goldsmith shop in Bakar Arang here yesterday, making off with jewellery worth between RM700,000 and RM1 million.
Kuala Muda Police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said police received a call at 7.20 pm alerting them to the incident at the shop located inside a supermarket here.
“Initial investigation found that the suspects arrived on two motorcycles. Two of them entered the shop while the other two waited outside.
“They smashed the display cases and took the items inside. The total losses are still being assessed, but preliminary estimates put the value at between RM700,000 and RM1 million,” he told reporters last night.
He said the same shop was also robbed in 2024, with losses estimated at RM1 million.
“The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code,” he added. — Bernama
