KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 — MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has confirmed the Barisan Nasional (BN) component party will contest in the upcoming 16th Johor state election (PRN16).

Wee, who is also Ayer Hitam MP, told Berita Harian that the number of seats MCA will contest is still under negotiation.

“Why wouldn’t MCA contest? We will, but it is not my style to pre‑empt discussions as I respect the ongoing negotiations,” he was quoted as saying yesterday.

A list of proposed MCA candidates has circulated online, naming 15 individuals including Wee for the Skudai seat. The other 14 seats mentioned include Jementah (Tay Kok Wea), Bekok (Tan Chong), Tangkak (Ong Chee Siang) and Bentayan (Chua Lee Huat).

Johor MCA deputy chairman Ling Tian Soon, who also chairs the state Health and Environment Committee, was listed to defend Yong Peng.
