MELAKA, Sept 23 — A coalition of retiree and former police associations in Melaka has proposed that the state government establish a special portfolio for retiree affairs.
Deputy chairman of the Melaka Chapter of the Retired Senior Police Officers Association of Malaysia, Datuk Sharul Laili Masduki, when presenting the proposal, said it aims to create a direct two-way communication channel between retirees and the state government.
It would allow retirees to convey their concerns and welfare needs while receiving government information and assistance more efficiently, he said in his speech at the Police Retirees’ Gathering with Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh at Seri Bendahara, Ayer Keroh, last night.
Also present were Melaka Police Chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar and Deputy Melaka Police Chief Datuk Ahmad Jeffry Abdullah.
Sharul Laili also urged the state government to provide a dedicated annual allocation for retiree welfare activities, including assistance for members facing hardship, support for elderly, frail or ill retirees, and health, recreational, religious and community programmes.
He said the association currently relies mainly on membership fees, with additional support from the Warriors’ Fund and the state government.
Meanwhile, Ab Rauf said the state government would continue prioritising the welfare of police retirees as recognition of their service and sacrifices.
He announced a contribution of RM200,000 to the PDRM retirees present as a gesture of appreciation for their past service and sacrifices, and RM100,000 to four PDRM retiree associations in the state, alongside a donation of equipment such as beds, wheelchairs, and walking sticks for members in need. — Bernama
